We are a non-profit organization,
functioning as a channel of
transformation and empowerment among teenagers who are victims of substance and social
media abuse. Started in 2008 form the make-shift facility of Congregation of Sisters of
Charity (CSC), Chittissery, Thrissur, in which we are part of, AURA has so far handheld
5000+ children, from the brink of addiction, back to normal life. A host of these
children have grown up to become responsible citizens, contributing to their homes,
society and nation. Some of them have excelled in various spheres of life, including
sports, arts, music and specific career domains. We work with schools in and around
Thrissur and Palakkad districts of Kerala and offer training sessions, therapy, camps,
workshops, career coaching and mentoring to select group of children, referred to us.
The epidemic of substance abuse in adolescents is increasing at an alarming rate and we
are unable to meet the needs of the society due to insufficient infrastructure and
operational capacity. We would like to reach out to wider geographic areas and be a
beacon of hope for the families of more struggling adolescents. The plan is to construct
a 15000+ sq ft state of the art de-addiction centre with better facilities,
infrastructure and hostel. The project is expected to cost approx. 3.5 crores, as on
date. We look forward to support from kind-hearted individuals and Organisations.
Augustin Ukken Revitalizing Agency
(AURA), a Non-Governmental Charitable Organization (Reg. No: 701/IV/08)
dedicated to the welfare of students and vulnerable individuals in our
community. AURA serves as the social service center of the Congregation of
Sisters of Charity (CSC) Maria Province, located in Thrissur, Kerala.
AURA
will reach out to all
individuals to promote their competencies and ensure capacity building to make
positive differences in their lives, their families and communities for nation
building.
AURA draws inspiration from Venerable Fr.
Augustine John Ukken, a
priest of the Thrissur diocese who dedicated his life to serving the poor and disadvantaged
during the twentieth century. His ministries focused on slum dwellers, the marginalized,
and, most importantly, the youth. Augustine Ukken's principles of social service among the
poor and vulnerable guide our mission to ensure their social welfare. He is our patron
saint, and we strive to follow his legacy of compassion and service.
AURA began its journey in 2008 under the leadership of Sr.
Jis Therese CSC as
a registered Charitable Trust under the Indian Charitable Trust Act of 1882.
Initially operating in Koorkkenchery, Thrissur, our primary focus was on
schools, where we initiated training programs for the all-round development
of school children, facilitated educational assistance, and provided
counselling and guidance.
From the outset, AURA also catered to the needs of HIV/AIDS-affected and
infected children, as well as slum dwellers, offering treatment and support.
In 2010, recognizing the growing need, we expanded our efforts to include
revitalizing drug-addicted children and adolescents. The office and training
center were relocated to Chittissery in May 2012. Since then, AURA has
continued to address issue-based problems for various categories of people,
striving for excellence and making a significant impact in the community.
Over the years, AURA has successfully guided over 5000+ children from the
brink of addiction back to normal life. Our mission remains steadfast as we
continuously develop and implement programs to empower and support the youth
and vulnerable populations in our community.
The Governing Board, consisting of 11 members
nominated by the provincial superior of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity
(CSC), oversees the overall management of AURA. The provincial superior is the
organization’s trustee.
An Advisory Board provides valuable suggestions and
guidance, ensuring that AURA's work is carried out effectively, efficiently, and
responsibly.
